Your Host
Having met so many wonderful people while she travelled and lived abroad, Sarah-Jane decided many years ago she wanted to host visitors in her own boutique bed & breakfast, preferably in the country surrounded by vineyards and mountains. In 2023 she built Matagouri Lodge as a peaceful haven located slightly off the beaten track, yet close enough to local attractions. She encourages guests to slow down, unwind and take their time to explore the stunning region.
A self-confessed foodie, Sarah-Jane is passionate about bringing people together over good food and wine. She encourages guests to dine in at least one evening during their visit. Meals are prepared using her own, and locally grown seasonal fruit and vegetables, local artisan produce, and of course Central Otago wine.
Gardening is a new passion, and landscaping around the lodge will be phased over time to ensure the amazing panoramic views continue to take centre stage. In the spring of 2024 she planted the first fruit trees in the orchard and has designed an extensive vegetable garden which will be built during the summer and autumn of 2024/25. Sarah-Jane says she looks forward to the seasons ahead when there is sufficient produce to preserve. In the meantime, Central Otago grows some of the best cherries and stone fruit in New Zealand.

Sustainability
We have great respect for the environment and operate as organically and sustainably as we can.
Grow food
Our goal is grow as many fruit and vegetables as we can in our kitchen garden and orchard. We will preserve, pickle and sauce excess produce to sustain us and our guests throughout the year. We love the eggs our lodge chickens lay and source locally when we have a shortfall.
Waste
All food scraps and where appropriate paper, toilet rolls, and cardboard boxes are composted and returned to the ground to help nourish the soil for the following year’s crop. Rubbish is sorted and recycled.
Cleaning products
Our cleaning products are made from environmentally friendly natural ingredients.
Washing
We make good use of the sun and wind to dry washing naturally, including bed and bathroom linen.
Smoke free property
Matagouri Lodge is a smoke/vape free area. We ask that you respect this please.
